The B-Love Foundation was established to honor an esteemed family member and friend who died in April 2018, Barry Schmidt. He was a kind and fun person. His love for participating in sports as a child and a special place in his heart for helping those in need, especially the youth in the community, inspired the birth of The B-Love Foundation. While growing up in Calvert County, Barry played T-ball, baseball, and football; Prince Frederick Astros and Eagles were his two teams. In time, Barry realized becoming a barber was another life passion. Barry worked as a barber for over 20 years before starting his own business after working in a few barbershops. In 2003, Barry and his younger brother Bradley opened SKILLS barbershop in Owings, MD, fulfilling the dream of working for themselves, contributing to their local economy, and giving back to the local community where they grew up. Now located at Rod n Reel Resort in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, Skills is one of the most popular barbershops, especially for those living in north Calvert County or southern Anne Arundel. Folks will drop by to talk with friends even if they are not due for a haircut because of the friendly and fun environment Barry and Bradley established, which Bradley continues to cultivate daily.
If you didn’t know where “B-Love” came from, it was Barry’s DJ name. All those who knew him will tell you that music made him tick. Not only did he like listening to music, but he also loved to explore his creative side and make music. So many people were touched by Barry’s life, and we hope that we can continue doing so through this foundation.
To maintain the spirit of helping others just like Barry wanted us to do, The B-Love Foundation carries on to help others in need. The B-Love Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports youth sports and co/extra-curricular activities in Southern Maryland. We aim to encourage children to participate in sports and other co/extra-curricular activities regardless of their ability to pay the fees needed. Children involved in co/extra-curricular activities gain a lot from such experiences, which they can use throughout their lives and in overcoming challenges at school. Friendships get made, and responsibilities and time management are developed and improved by the youth participating in these, which Bradley still does daily.
The recollections, associations, and expertise learned from these activities forever affect young people’s lives.
For this reason, The B-Love Foundation would like to express our gratitude to everyone who participated in or sponsored the Barry Schmidt Annual Golf Classic. We anticipate many more successful campaigns.
